The History of The Masked Singer

FOX's new show The Masked Singer challenges famous celebrities to sing in an elimination-style competition, but with a big twist: they are all dressed head-to-toe in elaborate costumes. Their identities are hidden both on and off stage, and their voices are digitally distorted in interviews. The only hints about their identities are the clue packages given every week and, of course, their singing voices. Each week, contestants face off in a singing battle where they must impress the panel and studio audience. Afterwards, the singer with the least audience votes will be eliminated and unmasked, revealing who the celebrity underneath the costume was.

The show is hosted by television host and actor Nick Cannon, and the judging panel is made up of singer-songwriter Robin Thicke, American actress Jenny McCarthy, comedian Ken Jeong, and former lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger.

The series premiered on January 2, 2019, with the season finale airing on February 27, 2019. The second season premiered on September 25, 2019 with the season finale airing on December 18, 2019. The third season premiered after Super Bowl LIV on February 2, 2020 with the season finale airing on May 20, 2020. Season four of the show premiered on September 23, 2020.
