The Masked Dancer: Ellen DeGeneres Parody, abbreviated The Masked Dancer (EDP) is a parody dance television show segment that aired on NBC from January 10 to October 12, 2019. In this show, American celebrities perform comedic dance performances, and the panelists' task is to guess their identities using clues.
Production[]
After the premiere of the singing TV show "The Masked Singer" on Fox on January 2, 2019, Fox's ratings increased significantly, and the show's format was immediately purchased by several countries. A week after the show's premiere, on January 10, TV personality Ellen DeGeneres featured a parody segment on her talk show "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", where celebrities instead of singing, they were dancing[1].
In January 2020, it was announced that Fox had begun collaborating with Dageneres to create a full-fledged dance spin-off of The Masked Singer, and in December 2020, the spin-off, which was named after the parody, was officially premiered[2].
