Maya Indea Jama is a panellist on series six of the British version of The Masked Singer. She replaced Rita Ora due to her ongoing commitments on the American version of The Masked Singer where she replaced Nicole Scherzinger who left the American version of the show before the airing of the eleventh season.
Biography[]
Maya’s first television appearance came on Maya's FIFA World Cup and was followed by becoming presenter of The Wrap Up in 2014.
Maya would later host the Pre-BRIT Awards Party and act as one of four poolside reporters alongside Frankie Bridge, Radzi Chinyanganya and Ryan Hand on Freddie Flintoff fronted show Cannonball before going on to co-host the MOBO Awards alongside Marvin Humes in 2017.
Maya then co-presented the first series of The Circle alongside Alice Levine and co-presented Stand Up to Cancer alongside both Alan Carr and Adam Hills before becoming one of the team captains on Don’t Hate the Playaz.
In 2020, Maya hosted both Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer and co-presented The Big New Year's In.
In 2021, Maya gained one of her most notable hosting duties by replacing Stacey Dooley as the host of Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star for the third and fourth series of the show, a role which she retained until the fifth series of the show in 2023, in which she was replaced as host by Leomie Anderson.
In 2021, Maya hosted Simon Cowell’s new music show Walk the Line over the festive period, however it was quickly axed as it was announced the show wouldn’t be returning for a second series after the culmination of the first series due to poor ratings.
Maya would later gain another notable presenting role in 2023 when she took over as host of the British version of Love Island from Laura Whitmore who had previously taken over from the late Caroline Flack. In 2023, Maya would also act as host for the first and only series of Global Love Island spin-off series Love Island: Games. Maya would later act as host for the All Stars series of Love Island, which first made its debut in 2024 alongside co-host the BRIT Awards alongside both Roman Kemp & Clara Amfo.
In terms of her radio career, Maya debuted her own radio show on Rinse FM; #DriveWithMaya in 2014 with this remaining on the air until 2017, where she would leave Rinse FM and join Radio 1 as fellow DJ Scott Mills’ co-presenter alongside Chris Stark on Fridays.
Between 2018 and 2020, Maya both fronted her own Radio 1 show; Maya Jama and hosted Radio 1’s Greatest Hits on both Fridays and Saturdays.
In May 2020, Maya decided to leave Radio 1 rather than renew her contract with the radio station for a third consecutive year citing her reasoning for this as having a lot of exciting commitments planned for the future which made it virtually impossible for her to continue her broadcasting segment at Radio 1.
