Chàng Lúa (translated as Paddy Guy) is a masked celebrity contestant on the first Vietnamese season of The Masked Singer Vietnam.

He is first introduced to be one of the mascots from the Section A, together with Lady Mây, Miêu Quý Tộc, Kim Sa Ngư and Phi Hành Gia Heo.

Appearance

Chàng Lúa is based after the paddy with a cartoon face and a smiling mouth. His costume has cultural theme elements such as the shirt, puffy pants and rain boots have rice plants texture in it. Not only that, both of the shirt and the cape he is wearing have the same pattern resemblings a sedge weaving craft. There is a small bag of rice plants can be found on one side of his pants.

Chàng Lúa takes the image of Vietnamese rice fields, and was designed by the fashion designer Ngô Mạnh Đông Đông.

According to Ngô Mạnh Đông Đông, every mascot has their own background story. For Chàng Lúa, he is a paddy who lived in the village/countryside and moved to the city.

Name

• Chàng means "a young man" in Vietnamese. Chàng is used to refer to an adorable/lovable young/young adult man.
• Lúa means "rice" or "paddy" in Vietnamese.

• Sóc Sờ Bai Sóc Trăng (Episode 1): The song name is originated from Khmer language. The meaning and the origin of the words is explained as:
  • Sóc Sờ Bai is originally a Khmer word, written as សុខសប្បាយ. Linguistically, this word means “happy; peaceful”. Khmer people use it to greet each other when they meet. According to another source, Sóc Sờ Bai also means “province”.
  • Sóc Trăng is the name of a province in Southern Vietnam, or a city with the same name located in Sóc Trăng province, Vietnam.
  • Sóc Sờ Bai Sóc Trăng is the greeting of someone when they come to Sóc Trăng province for the first time.
